| "Feeding
habits of small cetaceans at the northern coast of São Paulo State,
Brazil"
Since 1994, the Projeto SOS Mamíferos Marinhos has been monitoring the occurrence of marine mammals at the northern coast of São Paulo State (São Sebastião, Ilhabela and Caraguatatuba municipalities). A total of 165 individuals have been recorded until October 2006, and several kinds of samples have been collected from these animals, including 31 stomachs' contents from 4 species of dolphins (Pontoporia blainvillei, Sotalia guianensis, Stenella frontalis and Steno bredanensis). This project aims to keep monitoring incidentally captured dolphins occurrences in the northern coast of São Paulo State, analysing the stomach contents collected to compare the feeding habits of the species which occur in this area with the habits of the same species occurring in other areas from the Brazilian coast. |

| "Occurrence
and distribution of cetaceans at Alcatrazes Archipelago, southern coast
of Brazil"
The Alcatrazes Archipelago is a high diversity area of southeastern Brazilian coast, which attracts migratory and oceanic species of whales and dolphins. Six cetacean species (Balaenoptera edeni, Megaptera novaeangliae, Pseudorca crassidens, Steno bredanensis, Stenella frontalis and Delphinus sp.) have been recorded at Alcatrazes and its surrounding from 1990 to the present. Monitoring trips by "Projeto SOS Mamíferos Marinhos" has gathered information about cetaceans distribution and use of habitat, confirming the importance of these islands to the conservation of whales and dolphins. |
